01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Hakata Mangetsu offers an unpretentious setting filled with the comfort foods of Kyushu, making it a reliable stop after work. The centrepiece of the table is the signature motsunabe, built around tender beef offal. Diners can select from 4 distinct broth styles—salt, soy sauce, miso, or spicy chili—each simmering down into a rich soup that coats cabbage, chives, and plump offal.
A steady stream of skewers and side dishes keeps the table lively while the hot pot comes to a simmer. Classic yakitori selections like chicken thigh, negima, pork belly, and sasami chicken tenderloin can be mixed and matched to taste. Other pub classics include mentaiko rolled into dashi omelettes, crispy chicken nanban smothered in house-made tartar sauce, and gently low-temperature cooked pork liver sashimi that highlights its natural texture.
Pints of inexpensive draft beer anchor the drink list, complemented by regional Kyushu fruit sours highlighting Hakata Amaou strawberries, Hyuganatsu citrus, and Unshu mikan. With Friday hours running until 4:00 the following morning alongside party courses and reservation options, it is a convenient gathering spot for casual group nights out.
